Hi, I’m Louise. I work with children aged 4 to 18 who are experiencing learning difficulties, related to language and literacy.
If you're concerned that your child is struggling, it can feel overwhelming, especially when frustration or anxiety affects your child’s confidence.
Welcome
My goal is to support families with insight and direction by offering affordable, research-based assessments that help you understand your child’s learning needs and explore practical next steps.
Change the trajectory!
Early screening and intervention makes a difference in you child’s learning trajectory and school experience. It prevent learning gaps from growing over time.
Screening will tell you whether your child is on track with their learning or if they need exta support.

What are learning difficulties?
I’m an educator passionate about unlocking the power of language. From teaching English to refugees in Sydney to supporting secondary students in regional Victoria, I’ve seen how literacy can transform lives—and how undiagnosed challenges like dyslexia and Developmental Language Disorder can hold young people back. My mission is to identify these difficulties early and help students build the skills they need to thrive.
In 2022, I completed a Master of Learning Intervention at the University of Melbourne. This website is a new venture to support families beyond my school who may have questions about their child’s language and literacy development, and how these skills impact their learning journey.

Learning difficulties commonly affect reading, spelling writing, but can also impact other areas like mathematics. Contributing factors can be:
What Are Learning Difficulties?
-
Internal factors (e.g. neurological, medical, or physical conditions), which are intrinsic, often lifelong, and typically classified as learning disabilities or specific learning difficulties.
-
External factors (e.g. family environment, community, educational opportunities), which can also influence learning.
Language and Literacy Difficulties
Some children have conditions that make learning harder than expected.
Dyslexia makes reading and spelling challenging, while developmental language disorder (DLD) affects how kids understand and speak.
These difficulties are often unseen and not well understood, but they are more common than many think.
At Pelican Learning, I help families understand these differences and find clear, practical ways to support their child’s growth.
